Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. We do not keep a separate log of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or contact message as needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical data when a page loads, including:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- The referring site, when available
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on visited pages
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files that help measure page traffic and visitor paths. Analytics vendors combine that usage data for us. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing faults and improving performance
- Routing searches to the selected partner
- Understanding which content visitors use
- Operating and securing the site
- Displaying potentially relevant advertising
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a personal criminal-record database. Douglas County guidance points to the sheriff, Illinois Circuit Court, Illinois State Police Bureau of Identification, and Illinois Sex Offender Registry. Visitor data is not assembled into a consumer report or a file about another person, and this site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy terms, retention periods, and sharing rules apply to information submitted through those tools. Review the provider's policy before searching because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the Douglas County Sheriff, court portals, Illinois agencies, legal-aid resources, or outside tools. Once you leave, the destination's privacy policy controls. Check it before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their own systems to measure activity across sites and tailor ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics vendors measuring traffic and performance
- Search providers processing a submitted query
- Advertising networks serving page ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Standard safeguards protect collected data, but no online system is fully secure. We take reasonable steps while making no promise that a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. We will delete such data after receiving a valid notice.
Your Data Rights
Illinois consumer protections, including the Illinois Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business Practices Act, 815 ILCS 505, may provide rights based on the facts and your residence. You may:
- Request deletion of data where applicable
- Ask to see information held about you
- Object to certain processing where a right applies
- Seek correction of inaccurate information
The Illinois Freedom of Information Act, 5 ILCS 140, governs requests to public bodies, not data held by this private site. Illinois State Police conviction dissemination instead operates under the Uniform Conviction Information Act, 20 ILCS 2635.
Updates to This Policy
We may revise this policy. A changed version will appear here with its new effective date, so review it periodically.
